A timeline infographic turns a wall of dates and events into something people actually want to read. Whether you're explaining company history, a scientific discovery, or a project roadmap — the right visual makes it stick. The old way meant hours in Canva or Illustrator. The new way takes about 90 seconds.
What makes a good timeline infographic?
Before diving into tools, it's worth knowing what separates a great timeline from a mediocre one:
- Clear hierarchy — readers should instantly know which events are most important.
- Consistent spacing — events should feel balanced, not crowded.
- Relevant icons — a small icon next to each milestone helps readers scan faster.
- Readable at a glance — if someone has to zoom in to read it on social media, it's not working.
Pro Tip
Step 1 — Choose your source material
You have two options in Vizedly: paste a Wikipedia URL or paste raw text. Wikipedia URLs work best for history, science, and biographical timelines. For internal content (a product launch, a company story), raw text is the way to go.
- History of a company, person, or movement
- Scientific discovery milestones
- Product version history
- Project phases and delivery dates
- Cultural moments in music, art, or sport
Step 2 — Generate with AI
Open the Timeline Editor and click the AI tab in the sidebar. Paste your Wikipedia URL or text, then click Generate. Vizedly's AI reads your content, extracts the key milestones, picks relevant icons from a library of 2,300+ images, and builds the full timeline canvas automatically in under 10 seconds.
Step 3 — Pick a theme
Vizedly gives you several pre-built colour themes to match your brand or audience:
- Minimalist — clean white, slate nodes. Best for editorial and academic content.
- Corporate Blue — navy and sky blue. Built for LinkedIn and business presentations.
- Dark Mode Tech — black background, violet accents. Great for tech and startup stories.
- Warm Tan — cream background, earthy tones. Perfect for history and culture.
- Emerald — green palette for nature, environment, and wellness topics.
You can also fully customise any colour — primary, background, text, and path — using the Brand tab.
Step 4 — Edit and customise
The AI does 90% of the work, but you'll almost always want to tweak a few things. In the Workspace tab you can:
- Edit any milestone title or description
- Swap icons by clicking the icon button on any node
- Reorder milestones by dragging
- Add or delete milestones
- Adjust font size with the title and body sliders
Step 5 — Export
Hit Export PNG to download a crisp 1080×1080px image — the standard square format for Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter. For timelines with more than 5 milestones, use Export Carousel to get slide-by-slide PNGs. Each slide becomes a separate image — carousel posts consistently outperform single images on LinkedIn and Instagram. You can also export as PDF for print-ready output.
Add a cover slide before exporting — Vizedly lets you set a title, subtitle, and icon. It makes carousel posts feel complete and polished.
